Gladys Blanchette (née Gagné)

Gladys Gagné Blanchette, a native and long-time resident of Thetford, passed away peacefully on 6 December 2015, at Centre René-Lavoie in Disraeli, at the age of 89 years and 7 months. The beloved wife, mother, sister and aunt is survived by her son, Stephen, siblings Lawrence, Eileen, Len and Ernie, and many nieces and nephews including Joyce, Pauline, Diane, Pierre, André, Carole, Michel, Odette, Yves, Louis, Jean, and Tim. She was the daughter of Gédéon Gagné and Margaret Hébert. She was also the step sister of Thérèse Blanchette (Gérard Laflamme) and Charlotte Blanchette (late Denis Desaulniers).

Gladys graduated from Quirion Business School before starting work at the Canada employment office. She married Florian Blanchette (1922-2009) in 1958 and gave birth to her son, Stephen, in 1964. The family made their home on Laflamme Street in Thetford. After retiring, Gladys and Florian purchased a second home in Arizona in 1981, where they wintered for over 20 years. A passionate golfer, Gladys also enjoyed oil painting, silver craft, and lapidary. She was also an enthusiastic traveller. Some of her favourite destinations included Europe, Hawaii, and Las Vegas, where she enjoyed trying her luck at the slot machines.

To accommodate far away family members, a celebration of Gladys’ life will be held on 7 May 2016 at 15:00 at Complexe de la Cité, 1600, av. Le Gendre, Québec, QC, G2G 2W5. The family will be receiving condolences on the same day at 14:30.
