It is with profound sadness that the family of David Walsh announces his passing at 92 years of age. David passed away peacefully at his residence at Le Saint-Patrick May 10, 2021. He was born in 1928 in Moncton N.B to the late Frank and Lumina (Babineau) Walsh. He is survived by his loving wife and sweetheart of 52 years, Florence (Kenny) Walsh and their loving son Benjamin (Kimberly Perry), his step grandchildren Matthew (Gina), Travis (Sarah), Melodie (Kevin) and 6 step great grandchildren whom he adored. He is also survived by his sister Nancy (late George Hurst), sisters-in-law Jeannette (John Cummings), and Joan Luckman (late Gerry Kenny). Predeceased by siblings Patrick, Francis, Mary Louise (late Peter Schuller) and Gerald (late Ruth Reid), and his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Jacqueline Kenny, Patrick Kenny, Gerry Kenny (Joan Luckman) and Evelyn Kenny (late Reggie Johnston), and survived by many nieces and nephews.

After graduating from Saint Thomas University, he began teaching in Alma N.B. He joined the priesthood at the age of 24. He left the priesthood at age 37. In 1965, he moved to Quebec City where he obtained a master's degree in History. In 1966, around the same time he met Florence, he started working as head translator at the National Assembly in Quebec City, retiring in 1991. Over the years, David had many passions. He was a member of the Quebec City “Camarata Vocale” and a play reading group and he was in QAC’s “Music Man” and “Brigadoon”. David and Florence had a great passion for the symphony orchestra and had season tickets at the “Grand Théâtre” for over 40 years. One of his greatest passions was books, he was known for his great knowledge. David and Florence were dedicated volunteers at Saint Brigid’s Home visiting the residents and giving out communion.

David was a faithful parishioner at Saint Patrick’s church, where throughout the years he was a trustee member and choir director for 15 years before retiring in 2016. He remained a choir member until the pandemic. He was also a member of the morning prayer group and really enjoyed his social time coffee chats with friends and fellow parishioners after mass. He also was a proud member of Irish Heritage Quebec.

He and Florence had a love of restaurants; their favorite that made them feel at home and always welcomed them with love was the “Veau d’Or” which was owned by their dear friend, Joanne Bragoli, whom they loved dearly.

We extend our gratitude and appreciation to the Jeffrey Hale Day Centre, especially Danny Roche for their support and care over the last year and a half. Thank you also to the pastoral assistant of Saint Patrick’s church and many friends and family who called him during the
pandemic. Dad was a kind and gentle soul who was loved and respected by many and will remain in our hearts forever.

Funeral service and burial will be held at Saint Patrick’s church and cemetery at a later date because of the pandemic. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the heart and stroke foundation or a charity of your choice.
